Mar 24, 2012· I'd say start your conversion and leave the lead screws for now. Since this is your first cnc conversion you'll have plenty on your plate. Changing to ball screws is a project in itself, and you'll find you need your disassembled mill to make the parts you need.
I have A cnc TAIG Mill with the 18" Table, This machine has the CNC Leadscrew nuts. I am getting backlash that I just cannot tolerate as I machine many parts that have bearing fits machined into them. Has anyone installed ball screws on the Taig mill? If so can you elaborate on the process. I am open to listening to any ideas on correcting this problem.
The issue I have seen with the lead screws is they don't handle rapid travel as well. . for small projects made of wood (MDF- HDF) and will be able to mill fingers and thumbs . You can do pretty good fulfilling that assumption with a Taig Mill.
